Are you thinking about doing something fun for spring with your hair? Are you stuck in a rut? Do you feel antsy with all this cold weather? Well, we had to Spring Forward this past weekend and that’s just a reminder that the snow and cold temps are nearing an end (hopefully) and warmer day are ahead!! I know, I know…I am WAY too bubbly over Daylight Savings but I’m ready for spring and flowers and sun dresses and flip flops and…too soon? OK, I’ll take it down a notch for some of you not feeling my eagerness.
According to Groundhog Phil, on February 2nd, we have six more weeks of winter. Well Naturals, we are full into March and that puts us pretty close to warmer weather and spring. It’s time to get out of the grumpy moods, shed those winter clothes while finding new styles for our hair. It’s a great way to help leave winter behind and feeling anew. Trying something hot and spring-like for your natural hair.
Natural hair is versatile so don’t give me that “I don’t know what to do with my hair” whine. There are plenty of ways to freshen up your style that won’t break the bank or have your significant other or family question if it’s even you. Spring is the perfect time to think up ways to spice up yourself for Prom, Spring Break, graduations or vacations. You don’t wait until it’s upon you. You get ready before and have your look before ANYONE else. No one told you this before? Yea, it’s the right time to do something hot to your hair.
Spring Changes
Coloring your hair – You can try the natural route (DIY recipes) or more traditional routes but with less harmful ingredients (Shea Moisture Color System with no ammonia, sulfates, or silicones). A lighter color always looks great for warmer weather.
Get highlights – If you are not up for an all-over color try some highlights with a DIY recipe or you can try hair chalk. Hair chalk can be as bold or as subtle as you like without commitments. You can also change up as often as you feel like washing your hair.
Bold cut – The TWA is big this spring so why not rock that? You can even do the shaved sides that was so popular last year or an asymmetrical bob. The cuts for natural hair are endless but make sure to go to a Natural hair salon and have a consultation first to ensure they know what you want.
Protective Style – Braids are fun and symbolize spring and summer. You may want to try a weave (and they have every hair type available so don’t fret if you want it to match your natural hair).
Try new styles – If you are like me and stuck with only a few styles then step out of your comfort zone and peruse YouTube for new styles to rock this spring. Twists, wash and gos, faux hawks, Afro…just try something new to you and feel like a whole new natural.

Sorry, but it’s time. Whether you think it is or not, it’s time to come out of your winter shell and prepare for the fun-loving usual events that will be here before you know it. Spring Break is already here for a few of you so jump in the car with some friends and take a road trip with a new attitude and a new hairdo. You had all winter to mope. Now it’s time to shine.
