It is one of the most dreaded moments when styling your hair: you reach into your cabinet and there is only a drop left of [insert your favorite natural hair product here].
It has happened to me time and time again. In fact, one day my husband told me (in an exasperated tone), “Why don’t you stop being cheap and buy two bottles instead of one?” He was referring, to my Curls Creme Brule, which I use as my daily leave-in. He was right.
So this summer, I made it my priority to stock up on all of the natural hair products I need for daily styling. Here are 5 must – stock – up – on NAtural hair products you do not want to be caught without.
Shampoo (Cleanser)
You don’t necessarily need to buy multiples of the same shampoo, but instead, you should have different types of shampoo. At the very least, you should have a “light” shampoo and a more “clarifying” shampoo. The first option is for days you need to cleanse your hair but you don’t want to dry it out; the latter is for when you need to remove lots of product buildup. In my cabinet, I have a cleansing conditioner for light cleansing, a “regular” shampoo for a traditional shampoo, and Bentonite clay for clarifying my hair.

My Picks: Jessicurl Hair Cleansing Cream, Alikay Naturals Caribbean Coconut Milk Shampoo, Burt’s Bees More Moisture Baobab Shampoo, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
Conditioner
One day, while searching for shampoo, my hubby said, “Toya! Where is the shampoo? All I see is conditioner! Who needs this much conditioner?!” Clearly, I do. I keep my cabinet stocked! At the very least, you should have a cheapie conditioner (here’s a list of 10 Popular Cheapie Conditioners) with lots of slip for detangling, and a deep conditioner that specifically states it is a “deep conditioner” or “hair masque”. For days that you don’t deep condition, you can also add a 3-5 minute conditioner to your natural hair care arsenal.

Daily Moisturizer
Whether you use a daily leave-in, a hair milk, or moisture mist (make your own with these 5 simple recipes), to moisturize your hair on a daily basis, you should invest in the super-size bottle or at least purchase two at a time of a daily moisturizer. If you are like me, my daily moisturizer is the first product I run out of — and I am often scrambling to find an alternative product to use in its place. To avoid this scenario, stock up.
My Picks: Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave In Conditioner, Curls Creme Brule Whipped Curl Cream
Stylers
Whether your favorite styler is a twisting butter, gel, edge cream, or shea butter, make sure to keep it on hand. For me, stylers are the one thing — other than hair milk — that I run out of on a regular basis. I am THAT person who tries to twist her entire head with only a dollop of twisting butter left.
My Picks: Donna Marie Super Buttercreme, As I Am Twist Defining Cream, Jane Carter Nourish and Shine, NOW Foods Shea Butter, Qhemet Biologics Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee, Qhemet Biologics Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee. Here’s a list of 10 Other Great Styling Products
Oils
To seal in the moisture and add some luster to your hair, every natural girl needs some type of oil in her cabinet. Preferred oils include olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil (my personal favorite).

So there you have it… 5 natural hair products you should have stocked in your cabinet. If you ever run out of your favorite product, I highly recommend having a backup that you can easily pick up at a nearby drug store or shopping center. For so long, I would only use Donna Super Buttercreme for my twistouts, but I could only purchase it across town. It was inconvenient when I was running out. I finally decided to try something new and discovered As I am Supper Buttercreme, which is available at my local Walgreens. So if you have a product that you can only purchase online or at a store inconvenient to your home, make sure that you have a convenient backup or stock up enough to ensure you never, ever run out!
