Ok. I’ll admit that maybe I’m being a little melodramatic. But I do have proof. Below you will see exhibit A. From one year to the next, I did not gain an inch– not an inch of length.
My hair was the same length in Year 1 that it was in Year 2.
It may have even been a little shorter and thinner. I’ve talked about this on my site before in My Hair’s Not Growing.
There are 3 common reasons why you’re not seeing any hair growth. And no, it’s not that your hair isn’t growing. In my case, my hair was breaking at the exact same rate that it was growing, given the appearance of stunted hair growth.
I went natural because like most women I wanted longer and healthier hair. When I was relaxed my hair seemed to plateau at arm pit length. Yea, its a good length but I knew it could be longer (or I wanted it longer). I was pretty devastated when I didn’t see any hair growth.
By Year 3 I had retained about 6 inches of length within a years time.

I had this same problem! I read about castor oil helping hair grow so I started massage it into my scalp a few times a week. I’m starting to notice a difference in thickness at my roots too. I use OKAY Pure Naturals Castor Oil with Lavender in it (I’m not big on the castor oil smell by itself) and I love the stuff, it smells so good! I will try my best to keep up my routine because I am known for slacking. Can’t wait to see what my results are in a few months! Pray for me ya’ll! lol

Hi Tamara,

I have very coarse hair..been natural a year now.. any suggestions on what I can do to get softer hair cis literally I cant get a comb pass through my hair without tears
Hi. I’m recently natural as of January and I wanted to know, I don’t do twist outs or anything. I simply wash/cowash and let my hair be free. It’s a tight curl pattern. Is this ok!? I’ve done twist outs and bantu-knots but didn’t like the look. I just pin the sides to make it look like a Mohawk and go.
Yes, that’s ok…Why wouldn’t it be? I will say that styling products do make at difference especially with styles like bantu knots. For a little extra hold and more defined styles I love and recommend
