1. How long have you been natural?
Hi my name is Aziza Brown, I am 21 years young and I have been natural my whole life, I have never worn weave, extensions, any artificial hair. I had dreads from the time my hair started to grow as a baby. My mother cut it when I was 10 and I grew them back at 11 years old. I have had them for 10 years now.

2. Why and how did you go natural? (Did you transition? What products and styles did you use?)
I was always natural because of my parents. We follow the Rasta culture, so having dreadlocks is apart of the culture, as well as living a clean healthy, vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. I style my hair a lot, from up-dos, to bantoo knots, tight curls to loose curls, wavy dreads, crimped dreads, high buns, low buns, and much more styles!
3. Did you transition long term or do the big chop? Why?
N/A
4. Tell us about your hair regimen. What products and techniques do you use? How do you keep your hair moisturized? What hairstyle do you rock religiously?
My hair regimen takes about 2 hours to wash and style depending on what style I do. The standard routine is washing (shampooing and conditioning) which is 30 mins, drying is another 30 mins, twisting each loc is another 30 mins, then styling depending on style is another 30 mins.
I moisturize my hair with a mixture or one of these following oils: Hemp Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Coconut Oil, and Gardenia Oil.
I love my hair down, whether its straight, curly or wavy, I love having it left down. But when Its down I love having it curled, so a braid out is the style I rock religiously, when I have time to style it that way.
5. How would you describe this experience?
The experience of writing about my hair is pretty cool actually. I makes me appreciate my hair and myself more. My hair adds to my personality so having it kept is a big thing for me! It brings me back to the times it took my 4-5 hours to style my hair, then I smile to myself, it brings me back to all the compliments I received about my hair. It is a great experience to reflect on the hair journey! :p
6. What have you learned since being natural (about yourself, your hair and other people)?
Since being natural my whole life, I have noticed a huge change in society and the hair product industry. I have seen a lot more natural hair products places develop! I started from only seeing them at festivals as vendors to online and location shops! The demand is there, people and realizing the beauty in their hair, and significance with their hair and overall health! Our scalps and very close to our brains, and what ever we put on them, we also put into our bloodstream and the chemicals can also get into the brain, I think people are starting to realize that.
7. What advice would you give to those transitioning or concerning natural?
I would give such advice to those transitioning or concerning the natural lifestyle, that yes your hair will submit to you, that yes you can be in control of it. But remember that once one tries to take control of nature, it will eventually start to naturally reform itself, so take care of your hair, but let it naturally take care of it self also. In other words do not over do it with products, your hair has it natural oils that moisturize itself, do to over style, your hair will fall out if it out under too much stress, let it be sometimes, let it free form!
