Creating your own natural hair care recipes at home doesn’t have to be tedious or time consuming. By using practical ingredients that are usually found in most homes, you can create a phenomenal at-home deep conditioner in 5 minutes or less. Here are 5 easy yet powerful DIY deep conditioner recipes that you can make in the convenience of your own home…
1. Banana Deep Conditioner for Dry Hair
Bananas are one of the better kept secrets when it comes to treating dry hair, as they are rich in beneficial vitamins such as potassium and Vitamin A. Olive oil is used to help penetrate and add moisture to parched strands. Greek yogurt will provide the hair with a healthy balance of moisture and protein to help soften dry hair strands.
You will need:
- 1 ripe banana
- 2-3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon pure honey
- plastic conditioning cap
How to Use: Mix banana and EVOO in a blender until very smooth, then add remaining ingredients and mix well until there are no lumps. Pour mixture through a strainer to remove any extra lumps or banana pulp before applying to your hair. Apply to wet hair, cover with plastic conditioning cap and leave on for a minimum of 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
2. Avocado Deep Conditioner for Dry, Damaged & Brittle Hair
Aside from avocados being extremely delicious, they are also great for treating dry and brittle hair, as they are rich in vitamins, oleic acid and other essential fatty acids. Honey is a natural humectant, and by adding this with naturally moisturizing oils, it will help the hair to retain moisture, strengthen the hair follicle, and enhance the overall texture of the hair.
You will need:
- 1 avocado, mashed well
- 2 tablespoons pure or organic honey
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil (or extra-virgin olive oil)
- plastic conditioning cap
How to Use: Be sure that your avocado is mashed very well. Add the avocado and the remaining ingredients to a blender, mixing until smooth. Apply to wet hair, cover with plastic conditioning cap and leave on for one hour. Rinse thoroughly and follow up with a light conditioner if needed.
3. Greek Yogurt Deep Conditioner for Severe Hair Breakage Greek yogurt serves as a light, natural protein treatment that will help strengthen the hair. Greek yogurt is also full of fatty acids that will help to fortify and add sheen to hair. It also contains lactic acid and helps to hydrate dry, breaking hair strands. Castor oil will strengthen the hair, and act as an emollient to prevent the hair from losing moisture and breaking. The egg serves as a source of protein and also helps to strengthen and fortify the hair.
You will need:
- 1 cup plain Greek Yogurt
- 1 tablespoon castor oil (generic or JBCO)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 whipped egg
- plastic conditioning cap
How to Use: In a glass or ceramic bowl, whip Greek yogurt until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and stir until even. Apply to wet or damp hair, cover with plastic conditioning cap and leave on for a minimum of one hour. Rinse thoroughly. Go to the Next Page

The oil contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that help treat and kill bacteria that may cause dandruff. Aloe Vera gel is added to reduce inflammation of the scalp and also works to fight dandruff. You will need:
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- ¼ cup sesame seed oil (not toasted sesame seed oil)
- 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera gel
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (or any penetrating oil)
- 2-3 drops peppermint oil or tea tree oil
- plastic conditioning cap

5. Mayonnaise for Dull, Dry and Lifeless hair
Mayonnaise is full of oils and fats that your hair will love. It helps moisturize, soften and add sheen to dull, dry hair and prevents the strand from becoming weak. Honey adds sheen to the hair, and acts as an all-natural humectant that prevents the hair from losing moisture.
You will need:
- 1 cup regular Mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup plain yogurt
- 1/3 cup olive oil (or coconut oil)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- plastic conditioning cap
How to Use: In a glass or ceramic bowl, whip all ingredients together and stir until evenly smooth. Apply to wet or damp hair, cover with plastic conditioning cap and leave on for one hour before rinsing.
