Step 1: DIY Hair Care Recipe – Pre-Shampoo: Moisturizing Oil Treatment A pre-shampoo oil treatment is simply leaving natural moisturizing oils on the hair for a period of time before shampooing. Some shampoos can be harsh on the hair, especially those that contain sulfates and can strip the hair or its natural oil. Adding oils to the hair before shampooing can create a barrier between your hair and the shampoo to help prevent that stripped feeling you can sometimes get after cleansing the hair. You may choose to use one type of oil such as Avocado oil or Extra Virgin Olive oil, or you could combine two or three different oils and throw in some essential oils for added benefits. DIY Oil Treatment Recipe:
- 1/3 cup coconut , olive or any moisturizing oil of your choice
- 1 tbsp Grapeseed oil
- 3-5 drops Rose Hips oil
Directions: Be sure to blend the oils well. You can apply the oil to your hair at room temperature or you could warm it in the microwave for a couple of seconds before applying to your hair. Sit under a conditioning cap for at least an hour before cleansing your hair. Click Next Page for the next recipe
Step 2: DIY Scalp & Hair Cleanser: Bentonite Clay Hair Mask Bentonite clay is great for natural hair because it detoxifies, prevents fungus, combats itchy and dry scalp, restores luster to the hair, and provides extremely beneficial trace minerals and nutrients such as magnesium, silica and potassium.
Bentonite Clay Scalp and Hair Cleanser Recipe :
- 1 cup Bentonite clay
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup Aloe Vera juice or gel
- 1 cup hot water (or more as needed)
- 2 tbsp Bragg’s liquid amino acids (optional)
- 3-5 drops tea tree oil or peppermint oil
Directions: Combine all ingredients and whisk until smooth. Allow to cool and apply to slightly damp hair with a dye brush, if available. Allow hair to dry for at least an hour (the mask should harden), rinse and follow up with your deep conditioner.
Step 3: DIY Hair Rinse – Apple Cider Vinegar & Tea Tree Rinse Rinsing the hair with apple cider vinegar is a great all-natural way to clarify the scalp, remove any excess buildup or product residue. Apple cider vinegar is full of nutrients and helps to balance the natural pH of both your scalp and hair. Apple cider vinegar rinses are highly recommended to help stop an itchy scalp, prevent dandruff and soften the hair, adding shine and volume. Use the following ingredients for a powerful, yet very easy Apple Cider Vinegar rinse that takes less than 5 minutes to create and use from start to finish. DIY Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse Recipe
- 3-5 cups lukewarm water, filtered or distilled
- 5 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar
- 2-3 drops tea tree oil
Directions: Stir all ingredients together and pour over your hair, I recommend doing this in the shower to avoid a wet mess. Massage into your scalp for several seconds before rinsing.
Step 4: DIY Deep Conditioner – Chocolate Honey Hair Smoothie Cacao powder is rich in vitamins, magnesium and also contains one of the highest levels of antioxidants than other sources. The cacao bean is where chocolate comes from and not only is it delicious, it is great for your natural hair because it adds vibrancy, shine, volume, and promotes healthy hair growth. Cacao contains beneficial nutrients for your hair such as protein, riboflavin, vitamin A and thiamine. Treat your hair to a yummy chocolate treat using the following ingredients: DIY Chocolate Deep Conditioner Recipe:
- 1 cup Greek Yogurt
- 1/4 cup raw Cacao powder (unsweetened cocoa powder can also be used for this recipe)
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 3 drops lavender oil
- 5 drops rose hips seed oil
Directions: Mix all ingredients together and apply to freshly washed hair. Apply a conditioning cap and allow the hair smoothie to sit for 30-45 minutes. Hair should be soft and manageable for an easy detangling routine, in addition to smelling lovely! Click Next Page for the next recipe
