The biting air of winter with its frigid temps can really do a number on our tresses which are already prone to dryness, wouldn’t you agree? Deep Conditioning regularly can both repair and prevent dryness. Good to know that there are some great products from awesome brands that can help us combat it and keep our hair looking its best! Here are four to try this season…
From the author of Thank God I’m Natural comes a natural product line geared toward taking care of our hair. With natural emollients like jojoba and olive oils, this deep conditioner is made to heal your strands along with honey to keep hair soft and shiny. My hair instantly feels moisturized when I apply it and detangling is easy breezy. One of my faves! (Amazon, $14.99)
2- Alikay Naturals Avocado Cream Moisture Repairing Hair Mask
As if ingredients like nourishing aloe vera juice, stimulating rosemary oil and olive oil aren’t enough, its main ingredient, avocado is rich in protein, Vitamins A, B, B6, C, E, K and the “good fats”, all of which make the hair strong, healthy, soft and shiny. The scent alone will grab you and the creamy texture is “insurance” that it will repair dry, damaged hair. I use this about twice a month to get the benefits of strong yet soft hair. (Amazon, $25.90)
3- SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque
This was one of the first deep conditioners I tried soon after going back to natural and I loved it right away! Shea butter is great for winter hair protection as it is one of the thicker emollients and does an amazing job of sealing in moisture. For this reason, I knew this would be a winner. To give it a some extra “oomph”, I like to add a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil for a nice cocktail to really pamper my hair. A plus? It’s sells for under $15. Quality ingredients that do the job without breaking the bank… how can you NOT love that?! The added benefits of Argan Oil to aid in promoting the hair’s elasticity and Sea Kelp to seal the cuticle make this an affordable treatment that really keeps natural hair in tip-top shape! (Amazon, $7.00)
Extreme temps are no match for Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Honey! For you mixtresses out there, here is a simple winter remedy to try with ingredients you likely already own. Mix about 1/2 cup of honey with 1/4 cup of EVOO and apply working in sections until the hair is completely coated. Cover with a plastic cap and a towel for added heat for about 30 minutes. Shampoo, rinse, dry and style as normal. Add an avocado for even more moisturizing goodness!
