Texas “Shop the Aisle Blogger Style” (STABS) was this weekend with your host me, Natural Hair Rules. (Natural Hair Rules tees are for sale.) Houston, my hometown, was my first stop.  We shared our hair stories.  It was wonderful to share experiences and hair lessons learned. Many lessons we all learned the hard way with breakage and damage. I told how I learned it was necessary to trim your ends every 3-4 months. It was several ladies that had the same exact experience. They also noticed that they were not retaining hair growth due to breakage.  Even though different products and technique work for different individuals the common factor is learning by trial and error in some case.  This is why sharing experiences are important.

The women of Houston’s Nappy Love Meetup group were very informed about the different products that our sponsors SheaMoisture, 4 Naturals, Taliah Waajid, Beautiful Texture, Curl Max, UR Curly, Curls Unleashed and Eden BodyWorks offered.

Dallas was great because I really got to chat one on one with each person. I even spoke to a man about his curly hair needs. People in the beauty aisles welcomed the opportunity to hear about all the products that Wal-Mart offers. One Shop the Aisle Blogger Style participant
said “I didn’t know Wal-Mart had all of this”. While another was happy I could assist “all the products can be overwhelming” she said. Many ladies were very curious about moisturizing their hair. I always give my spill about building a moisturizing regimen.
Shopping with a blogger provided a sense of relief. Many ladies were put at ease when realizing I didn’t work for any of the brands. They felt they had more freedom to explore all theirs options.  Both the customer and I were able to give honest feedback.

I had a great time doing what I do, talking hair.  And I really enjoyed Shop the Aisle Blogger Style because the sponsors were brands that I know and use.  But Wal-Mart offers so many choices for hair. There was something for everyone.  STABS allows for authentic conversation about hair care products. It also serves as a great tool for brand awareness. Many participants were surprised to find the product that they use and love are now available at their local Wal-Mart. I have to admit I was right there with them. For example, one of my staple Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner is sold at Wal-Mart. In the past I was only able to find it at Whole Foods.

I hope this is something that will continue all over the country.

Special thank you to Houston bloggers Lisa of This Hair of Mine, Tashia of Naturally Twisted Sistah, KD of Hair Gurl  and Ri of Nappy Love Houston meet-up for showing your support on and off line. Thank you to everyone that came out.
