Hair we go as Jason Whitlock so appropriately wrote in his post The Root of Gabby Douglas’s Hair Critics. After the ground breaking win of 16 year old Gabby Douglas the Twittershphere was not filled with congratulation for the first woman to receive the Gold since 1996 and the first African American to win an Olympic All-Round title but criticism of the young lady’s hair. REALLY?! Douglas just completed a record breaking gymnastic performance in the Olympics might I add. Thank goodness for veteran Gold Medalist Dominique Dawes who knows too well what Gabby is experiencing. She could barely compose tears of joy for Douglas. She was elated to change her website banner from the “only” to the “first” African American Gymnast. See tweet and video below.
My web guy’s words “changed the banner on your website from “only African American gymnast…” to read “the first African American gymnast…” — Dominique Dawes (@dominiquedawes) August 3, 2012
