The Golden Globes is the first peek into a New Year’s style for Hollywood, the fashion world and us, the consumers. We are just out of our holiday party mode and onto resolutions but style and fashion are always just a beat away. Many times the look for the season or even the year can be determined by what we see at the Globes.
Last night did not fail in the glam department as well as in the natural hair department. Ever since Viola Davis graced the 2012 Oscars in a stunning emerald green dress and an haute curly fro, naturals have been eagerly awaiting the next big gala to see some natural tresses. To many in the fashion and style world natural hair is new but we know better. Despite the discrepancies of when it became popular, natural hair is popping up on more red carpets than we can count and some of us are giddy and enthusiastic for more.
Natural hair is here to stay and so are the styles but just like anything else some styles stand out more than others. Of course, that can change from season to season and year to year. Who decides? Well, if you checked out the Golden Globes last night it’s no secret on what is going to be haute this year for natural hair.
Lupita Nyong’o was stunning in her dramatic but simple Ralph Lauren bright red column dress but her hair was all the buzz. Her TWA was straightened to mirror her dress by being dramatic and straight. Great look all around and every hair/style/fashion site is donning her the queen of the red carpet!
Lupita was not alone. Elegant natural hair could be found on more divas on the carpet last night. All was abuzz about Kerry Washington’s appearance with her cute baby bump! She looked amazing in her white custom Balenciaga by Alexander Wang gown as it flowed nicely on her growing belly. She decided to go with softer straightened hair that had a slight curl or bend and was full of shine. Her smokey eye and nude lips completed and complimented the look. She was glowing.
Zoe Saldana also graced the red carpet in a sleek style to not overshadow her unique black Prabal Gurung dress with off-the-shoulder pink straps. Great choice as the dress was busy and big hair may have made the look to distracting. Her slicked back bun was perfectly coiffed and polished to complete her look.
The overall theme for natural hair at the 2014 Golden Globes was straight, sleek and sexy and all three women pulled it off gracefully. This may be a peek at the hottest looks for natural hair in 2014 so pull out that heat protectant and get ready for some glam. I cannot wait until the next red carpet event to see what’s next for Natural hair!
