This weekend was the Black Social Media Summit hosted by Blogging While Brown in Austin, TX. I was among the awesome roster of speakers. When I saw the final line up, I thought to myself I betta put up or shut up. I was very nervous preparing my presentation. What could I tell this group about ‘Business Skills in Blogging’? It has only been very recent that I had begun to treat my blog like a business. I have been a business owner for a while but it wasn’t until September of last year that I really realized I could generate revenue with Natural Hair Rules.com.
Last year I wrote a post, ‘Are You Selling Yourself Short?‘ and that’s when I had my “Ah Uh moment”. Lamar and Ronnie Tyler who were also presenters were instrumental in this process. They are fellow blogger who really push and support. But I had to stop comparing myself to others. Its good to know what your competitors are doing but don’t compare yourself to them. I have learned to focus on what works, what I DO have and what’s my value proportions or what sets me and my business apart. Once I did that I found more fulfillment in doing what I love which is writing and connecting with my NHR fam.
