Obviously to an extent what you put onto your hair is important, because anything that you are using will have an effect on it. However, giving your hair the proper care it needs is more than just finding the right product. 4 Things That Are More Important Than Using The Right Natural Hair Products
You can smother your hair in product everyday and still see little to no results when you don’t know how to treat your hair. This is because your hair needs more than just that magic product it needs tender loving care.
So if you are being honest with yourself and you realize that you may be neglecting other aspects of your hair care here are some areas that you want to look into:
Next to hair dryness, especially when it comes to textures who are on the more fragile side of things, (4b & 4c hair types) manipulation is the most common cause of hair breakage. Our hair likes to be left alone so the less you have to style, maneuver, and comb it the less breakage you will see.
During your detangling process it is important that you are gentle with your hair. When you detangle start from the ends of your hair and work your way up. To get through your hair more easily be sure to use your favorite product for some slip. Always use a wide tooth comb or your fingers for detangling.
Limit Your Heat Usage
I know it’s a quick fix for stretching your hair and as someone who has hair that doesn’t like to stretch I understand why it’s more convenient to pick up that blow dryer. Whenever you can bare a longer stretching process through braids, African threading, bunning, or banding go for it. This is not to say that you can never use heat, but if you want healthier breakage free hair you want to reduce it as much as you can.
There is More to Moisture Than Just Products
Believe it or not there is more to retaining hair moisture than just finding the right product:
The temperature of the water you wash your hair with matters (hot water can be drying to the hair).
What you are washing your hair with also plays a role, you may want to try co-washing instead of shampooing all the time or try using a moisturizing sulfate-free shampoo.
Using a product that is actually a moisturizer. Some people are using sealants or oils, thinking that they are moisturizers when they are not. Very few oils have moisturizing properties.

Make sure you are looking at the whole picture when it comes to your hair care routine. A good product definitely boosts the health of your hair, but there is so many more aspects of your routine that are equally if not more important.
You cannot expect to use heat frequently, over manipulate your hair, and detangle improperly then expect a product to give you healthy hair. Having a good balance of the right care and good products will help you reach your hair care goals.
